RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

  1. Oshwal Library offers two categories of membership:
    • Full Membership, which entitles the members to borrow “Lendable items” and use the reading facilities.
    • Reader Membership, which entitles the reader to use the Reading facilities of the Library

 

“Lendable items” include all the Material that can be loaned out to members. At the moment this includes:

  1. A book
  2. A magazine
  3. A set of cassettes
  4. CDs
  5. Any other item as may be determined by the Library committee

 

  1. The Library offers a fully operational cyber café.

 

  1. All new members will be required to fill in a membership application forms that must be approved by the Library Committee before borrowing can be allowed. The committee reserves the right to refuse membership to any application without giving reasons.

 

  1. Each member will be required to pay an initial deposit and will be allowed to borrow three “lendable items” at a time for a period of four weeks and may be renewed if a reservation for that item has not been made. This deposit will be refunded only upon surrender of the members’ tickets.

 

  1. Each Member and Reader will be required to pay an annual subscription as determined by the Library committee from time to time. Half-year membership applicable to new members only will be available. This membership will only be available after 30th June of the year. Details of subscription rate can be obtained from the Library.

 

  1. Membership is valid up to 31st December in any year of commencement of membership. If membership is not renewed within five years of expiration of the membership the deposit shall be forfeited.

 

  1. Only children who are over 5 years of age will be allowed to be members of the Library.

 

  1. An applicant under 18 years of age must have the Application form stamped by his / her school or college and also approved by a parent or guardian. A copy of school / college identity card to be attached with the form. Renewals only require the parent / guardian approval.

 

  1. Fines will be levied on overdue “lendable items” at a rate determined by the Library Committee from time to time. The same shall apply for membership cards.

 

  1. If a lent item is lost or damaged, members will be asked to replace it or pay a sum of money equivalent to three times the cost of the item. If the cost of the item is stated in foreign currency, then such amount will first be converted into Kenya Shillings using the prevailing rate of exchange.

 

  1. Members making any sort of payment must receive in exchange :
  • A preprinted, prevalued ticket for all fines and penalties or
  • An official VOC receipt for any other sort of payment.

 

  1. Reference material is not available for loan to members.

 

  1. Smoking is prohibited in the Library. No foods or drink should be brought in the Library.

 

  1. All personal items (bags / handbags) must be deposited at the shelf next to the entrance and will be kept there at owner’s risk.

 

  1. Further information on the Oshwal Library can be obtained from the counter.

 

  1. The Library Committee reserves the right to amend or alter any of the rules and regulations in discriminatory.

 

  1. Any member found to be misusing the facilities or property of the library shall have his membership terminated and without prejudice the library reserves the right to charge any fine and penalty which are applicable.

 

SERVICES AND FACILITIES

 

Photocopying from the library material is available at a charge to be determined by the Library Committee. In confirmation of the copyright law only “a reasonable portion “of any material may be copied. This must not exceed 10% of the whole work.

 

A suggestion / comment book is provided for members to fill in.

 

The Library is open throughout the week at the following times:

Monday to Friday      9.30 am – 12.30 pm

                                    2.30 pm – 6.30 pm

                                                2.30 pm – 6.30 pm    (Tuesdays 2.30 pm – 8.30pm)

Saturday                     9.30 am – 6.30 pm     (No Lunch Break)

Sunday                        9.00 am – 12.30 pm

           

The Library will remain closed on Public holidays and on certain Jain holidays.

 

The Library organizes various activities; inter alia, lecture readers groups and children’s activities. Members are welcome to participate in these. Please contact the Library staff / and or check the notice board for details.
